Periods of Lag

Kyle

There are periods of lag when I use my computer.

First of all during programs such as games it slows down
periodically (every minute or so) so much that the audio
voices are choppy and repetetive like a broken record.
This happens all the time when I run the computer only
there is no audio so it is less noticable.
I have little RAM but it shouldnt matter because it
worked fine before.
Also the fan in the back or the hardrive I cant tell is
always running alot, and when I go to do a small task it
will kick up and start running and running faster and
faster until it seems like it will explode.
I have done all the standard clean-ups...clear up Temp.
files, defrag, compression, virus scans, etc. The only
thing I can think that is wrong is that there are factory
installed background programs running and I dont know how
to shut them off or I disabled a system function in task
manager by accident.
It is really an odd problem because it should work but
even the simplest tasks really eat up the computer.
Can appreciate any help I can get...need to get back to
work!
Thanks

Visit www.pcpitstop.com and run the test.

Check your system to see if you have any unsigned drivers
that may be causing the problem.

Go to Start > Run and type: SIGVERIF , and hit enter.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP
