PCI modem installation problem

trying to change my modem to voice/data/fax - to run my phone voicemail
program. My old modem worked fine in my OS. Running XP Pro after installing
the new modem, Intel 536EP, PnP recognizes that I have new hardware and when
it tries to install can't do it. I receive the followning message: There was
a problem installing this hardware: PCI Simple Communication controller an
error occurred during the installation of the device not enough storage is
available to process this command.

I've searched MS KB, tried changing registry permmisions, unloaded and
reloaded several times, tried different PCI modem with same results, and
evenreloaded old modem just to check things out.

Does anyone have an answer to help me with this issue?

Just call me,

The modem should have a usb plug next to cable, install plug to usb connection
on computer, then start-up,in xp you'll get "found new hardware",let it
install

Thanks for answering my question, Andrew. Yes, I have the XP drivers and I
even went to the company that manufactured my PCI board and down loaded the
newest set of drivers for this modem. They turned out to be the same. Yes, I
also tried the hardware wizard many times with as many variables as I could
think of. I also went into the Phone/Modem area in the control panel and
tried loading from there. I've also been in the Bios and looked at and tried
a change in the pheriphral area and didn't help. I've also contacted tne
manufacturer of my computer and their Tech support is like all tech supports
there is only about 1 or 2 people who really know anything and skeak clearly
enough for you to understand them and you only get lucky once in awhile to
get one of these gentlemen. I've tried loading the software 1st but that
won't work because it can't find a modem to use in the installation and I've
tried to figure out how to load the drivers without the modem installed but
have been able to do that either. As you can see I'm about out of options and
I'm still stumped on this. I'm not a total dummy as my name suggests but I'm
sure baffled on this one and I would appreciate any other suggestions you or
anyone else comes up with. Thanks, Dummy

Al,

Thanks for the web address. I'm going to check and see if I get the same
drivers that I already have. I downloaded what they same are the newest
drivers to my desktop and as soon as I can try them I'll let you know if they
worked.

Thanks, Dummy

Hi Al,

It's late and I'm exhausted. I tried the drivers didn't help. The file you
gave me was a little newer but my had been modified after your file. I have
decided that it is not the drivers that are the problem but the area in which
they are opened to be loaded from. There has to be something set wrong or
loaded wrong where ever that area is.

I went into my virtual memory area and changed my page file size to 3800 MB
hoping that this would help and I also used the device manager to shut down
95% of the processes running in the background and I also used msconfig to
shut down most start up files.

and then I also tried resetting the permissions for this device in the
registry files and still none of this helped.

I even looked and tried to see if there was a way to increase the size of
the windows temp file and also the internet temp file as you can see I'm
starting to get a little desperate and crazy

Please does anyone have any more suggestions before I take out my misc.
adjustment tool (baseball bat) and try that?

Thanks for trying Al and the rest of you also,

Dummy

Hello, I just finished a customer repair where I faced the same
challenge. PCI DSP modem with Intel chipset and XP-Home. XP did not
have driver and I could not identify modem manufacturer so I had to
download chipset driver "intel-536ep-460-2winxp.exe" from Intel's site.
Make sure to remove any traces of your previous modem installs then add
modem through control panel. HTH, Eric.
