PC won't recognise new Sony Dig. camera through USB

Computer - Compaq 200MHz MMX (old I know!)
Upgraded from Win95 to Win 2000 in order to download my
daughter's new Sony DSC P72 using USB..... computer wont
recognise .... installed and removed driver many times
including safe mode ... computer just ignores! .... please
help ... my daughter's memory sticks are full !!!!
 
If I recall, some of the early USB controllers were not fully compliant with
the standards for USB and did not function properly. I believe I had a
Compaq Deskpro 2000 with a Pentium Pro 200 that had this issue. You may want
to research Hewlett Packard's web site to see if this may be the problem.
