PC won't boot or boots randomly

Installed a 64 bit motherboard and cpu 12 months ago. Worked fine for about
9 months then had problems with onboard sound. Couple months later started
having problems with video. Then no video, no boot, no post. Had mb tested,
no probs. Installed new cpu. Tried booting with only cpu, mobo and ram.
Sometimes boots to post, sometimes not. Will also randomly boot with hdd and
monitor connected. Had one boot right up to gui. Mobo is not in contact
with case. PSU is only 2-3 months old. Ram seems good. Can't figure this
one out. Would appreciate any advice/input. Using Gigabyte K8VM800M
motherboard with Athlon 3000+ 64 bit processor.

Your problems are not Windows related, you might want to post your
request to a hardware specific group, you might have better results.
Did you contact Gigabyte? If the motherboard is still under warranty
you might have a valid claim to a replacement board. The computer
refusing to get to POST would seem to me like a motherboard problem.
Check their support section and user forums/help groups, if they have any.

Well it certainly sounds like a hardware problem. You said the system
functioned erratically with only your processor, RAM, (and I presume
graphics card) connected. I assume you mean sometimes you got a screen
display, other times you did not. That's it, no? When you speak of "boots to
post", you're not referring to hearing or not hearing beeps, right? We're
talking screen display here when only your processor, RAM, and graphics card
is connected, right?
Sometimes you get a screen display; other times you do not. Right?

When you say you had your motherboard "tested", what exactly does this mean?
By a technician? By Gigabyte? How was it "tested"?

And what do you mean when you say the "Ram seems good"? How did you
determine that? You tested it? Works fine in another machine? What?

And you're having the same problem with a new processor, right?

You're sure you're cabling/connections are proper & secure? Absolutely sure?
And the RAM is seated properly? Ditto for the processor, heatsink, graphics
card, etc.? And you're reasonably certain your MB isn't shorting out, right?

Have you been in touch with Gigabyte? Motherboard still under warranty?
Might be worth a RMA if you can obtain it.
