Hi,
I'm baffled. My PC will not boot to windows. The power starts OK, the
normal screens come up (Dell logo, a screen of text about BIOS, installed
disks, etc.), but when it gets to the point where Windows normally starts,
nothing happens the screen remains blank, except for a blinking cursor in the
upper left hand corner. From that point, nothing happens.
I think the problem began a couple weeks ago when a Symantec technician
remote controlled my PC and unistalled Live Update. I was instructed to
restart and reinstall, but it never came back.
I am able to boot from the "Reinstallation DVD" that came with the PC. I
have tried the various options from the repair menu, but the system doesn't
detect any problems. If I restart, use the F12 to boot from the DVD, and
don't "hit any key" when prompted, the PC boots to Windows normally. But I
haven't been able to get it to boot without the DVD for a couple weeks now.
The only other thing I've noted during this time is related to "iTunes". I
get a message after restarting that the "iTunes Helper Moidule has stopped
working" and that the program needs to close. If I do anything related to
iTunes, it fails, including just going to the Apple web site (then IE7
fails). Don't know if this last bit is related or not, but they started
around the same time.
Any ideas on next steps? How do I get the PC to boot to Windows?
Thanks,
Dan Nelson
