PC Speed

I am using Windows XP version Sp2 and i think that i am experiencing problems
with the speed of my computer.
Whenever i open a program or do anything that needs to be loaded, the speed
of my computer goes to a snails pace and whenever im palyin music it freezes
until the program or whatever is loaded.

Can anyone help solve this problem....thanks
