PC reboot

My PC keeps reboot before reaching the WinXP logo. I have tried the XP
repair but in vain. If I use a Dos boot disk to boot my PC to A:>, it will
not reboot unless I press the reset button. I guess it is infected by a
computer virus.
1. My data files are located in Desktop, can I re-install XP and kill the
virus without any harms to my data?
2. Any virus scanner can help to kill the virus before re-installation of
windows so that I can free the harddisk from virus before re-install XP?

Thanks and regards

Where exactly in the bootup process does your computer reboot? If the
operating system isn't even loaded, then you have hardware failure.
There is no point in using a software solution (reinstalling Windows)
for hardware problems so you need to determine what is causing the
error first.

You can rescue your data by either 1) slaving the hard drive in a
working XP box and copying the data off via Explorer; 2) boot with
Knoppix, a Linux distro that runs from cd; 3) boot with a Bart's PE.

If you do a clean install of Windows, deleting/creating the partition,
formatting the drive, installing Windows, it will get rid of everything
on the drive - viruses and data.

You might want to take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) for diagnose and fixing.
Otherwise, post back with a lot more detail about when your computer
fails and what antivirus you have installed - name and version - and
what makes you think you have a virus.
