well, the motherboard and
ram diagnostics may have
been a bit extreme and
would not be the primary
suspects. but trying
was a worthy attempt.
sometimes messages can
be mis interpreted and
your boss likely saw the
warning of "high risk" as
a result of running an
unconventional or incompatible
program.
old programs that are not
compatible could have
caused the o.s. to crash
if they were forcibly installed
into windows.
if the above occurred then
you should be able to
boot into safemode and
restore the pc to a time
when it was functional with
the system restore feature.
another thing you can do
is to use any windows xp
cd either home or professional
version and boot into the
recovery console.
when you get to the disk
system prompt, there
are various commands
you can run to repair
errors.
such commands like
bootcfg, fixboot, chkdsk
are very helpful.
i am sure that the savvy
tech who operated on
the pc, knows how to
use the methodology
above.
