I am running Win2kPro. This new computer game I got for
my son says it requires Win 98, ME, or XP. I tried
installing it with my current configuration of W2KPro with
SP2 and it installs fine and the games comes up like it is
ready to play and then it just basically quits all of a
sudden - going back to the Desktop - no error messages or
anything.
I know I need to install SP4 and I will be doing that
today. Will that likely make a difference in this PC game?

Also, are there utilities or app's or tools or emulators
thatwill allow us to get this game running (and other
games)that require Win 98 or ME or XP? Without buying XP
at the moment?

Thank you very much for any insights.

Sincerely,
John H

What's the name of the game? If it can run on W98/ME & XP it should
(probably) be able to run on W2K. Installing SP4 is not a bad idea,
even if you don't want to run the game having the latest Service Pack
can avoid a lot of potential problems. Other than that check the
DirectX version requirements for the game and make sure that your
DirectX components are working properly and at the right version.
Upgrading DirectX can have pitfalls however. Of course I'm sure that
you did check chip and RAM requirements as well.

What kind of game is this. Video drivers might need updating.

But if it says it won't work on Win2k, your not going to get much support if
that's what your trying to run it on.

It is a PC game from "Veggie Tales' called "Minnesota Cuke
And The Coconut Apes" - it is extremely violent and
bloody. Just kiddin. It isn't an 'old' game. The Cd
rom came with DirectX 9.0 (i think it was 9.0) drivers and
those I installed with the game. I will try updating my
video drivers - that is a good idea as I am using the
original drivers for my Matrox Millenium G550 card - which
are old. I will also try with the SP4 but you could have
nailed it with the video drivers.
Thanks and I appreciate all insights - any more are
welcome. Thanks again,
