PC freezes

Hi. i've been using windows XP professional x86 MCE for several years now
without a problem. Recently my PC has started freezing randomly forcing me
to perform a manual reboot. I have triple checked the drives for viruses with
nod32. everything seems clean. Have updated the Nvidia drivers. I can post
the event log if necessary. Anyone have an idea why this is happening>?
Thanks

there are a number of reasons why the
system will stall.

most often it is simply the result of
insufficient resource.

for example, if the virtual memory could
not resize (that is if it set to automatic)
then the system could stall.

if you are low on memory, then the
system can stall.

if the computer is trying to connect
to the web, like to download updates
and the system was busy at the time,

then the system can stall.

------------------

so my suggestion is to double check
your systems stability by logging into
the safe modes and compare that
environment to that of normal mode.

and let us know of your results.

also, how much memory do you have
installed?

winxp should be flying on that computer.

I would initiate a clean boot and

perhaps set the virtual memory to a custom
size of initial =2 and max 3.5 gigs.

Could very well be a hardware problem, perhaps bad RAM or a failing
power supply.

Or just way too many dust bunnies preventing the CPU fan from working
properly. Open the case and see if that is what's going on.

If the inside of your PC is clean, I would use a live Linux CD like
Knoppix or Ubuntu. If the behavior persists, you have a hardware
problem. If so, see:

If it's not hardware, try Safe Mode to see what happens.

OK, here is an update to my situation. Last night, after freezing my PC gave
me the BSOD with a message saying that it is a NV4_disp problem. And the
device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. After researching online, i read
that it was a NVIDIA driver issue. U just have to google NV4_disp for that:)
So i followed some instructons online and entered safe mode, removed the
drivers and then installed the latest nvidia driver.
SInce then my PC doesnt freeze anymore, instead it just reboots...:(
From what i did read, i guess my Nvidia GeForce 6200 TS is requring too many
resources from the PCU and there is a conflict between the VGA and Windows....
What should I do?
