i am running hp pavillion t550 with penthium 4, 512 ram, 80gigs hd. i have
scanned it with pestparol and microsoft antispyware, scanned it with norton
av many times and came out clean. done the error nuker too. i got about 70
percent space on my hard disc and at most times just using 260 on my ram.

my pc just freezes up , randomly. it could happen after 15 mins. after
loading or within 3 hrs. the cursor stays in one spot. no reaction from the
mouse and keyboard. it happens whether i am on line or offline. when it does,
the only thing i could do is turn off the switch and then restart. sometimes
while the it is loading ( restarting) it freezes too. would it be a hardware
problem? please give me a clue . thanks to all in advance.

Hi

Is there any entry in the Event Viewer that may correspond to the problem?
If so, could you please post the Event ID and Source?

Hi

From Start>Run type

eventvwr.msc

then click on the 3 options in the left hand column. You will see if there
are any 'Errors', probably either under 'Application' or 'System'. Could
you please post what you see under the 'Source column and the 'Event'
column?

Hi

That's quite a few errors. Initially, try a System Restore back to a point
before the problem(s) started. If that doesn't help, we'll have to see if
we can work through them one by one.

Hello ,
Actually I did a system restore twice taking my pc to 4 weeks back and then
six weeks back. no effect to fix the probs and so i undid the restorations,
after that i carried out a disc clean up and decided to dump the old restore
points. learning from previous posts, last night i decided to open the side
panel of my pc and point an electric fan to it just to isolate posible
overheating of components, ran it all night downloading music files,,,and
wow! it held up. it did not malfunction. i thought i got it. but just an hour
ago, with the fan and relatively cool room temperature, the cursor did not
only freeze but disappeared.

i also noticed just then that even without any application running ( as per
task manager window ), cpu usage is 5 % and the orange hard disc l.e.d. light
never stops flickering as if hard the hard disc is constanly doing something,
other facts from task manager>>>>PF
usage--240MB.........Processes--36........no applications running, connected
on line using 56k on dial up.

I thought these infos may help. thanks a lot for looking into this probs.
