paste Word docs into OExpress gives extra line spacing

I'm running WindowsXP Home, Outlook Express
6.00.2800.1123, Word2000 9.0.2720,
and when I paste some piece of a Word document into an
OExpress email, it looks like it was pasted accurately.
But then when the message is sent, it appears in the
recipient's inbox with 2 carriage returns at each point
where there is actually only one. It also appears with
extra carriage returns in my Sent box. I'm trying to
figure out how to fix this permanently.

Thanks for any help or info you can give.
