'Paste' does not work

Dear All,

I'm running Win XP pro SP2. In some MS applications (Internet Explorer,
Notepad etc.), the paste function doesn't work. The copy function still does.
In Office there is no issue.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Olivier

Yes, I did.
I just logged on to a server in the same domain; same issue. I think it's
policy related. But what policy and where?
Any clues anyone?

Thanks in advance,

Olivier

Sometimes when you Copy something to the Clipboard and then open the program
you want to Paste it in, you lose the capture. Try opening the program you
wish to Paste into first, then use Prtscn or Copy to grab what you want.
Now you may be able to Paste it into the program already opened.

If Word came installed as part of Works Suite then the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word (COM Add-in) is known to clear the contents of the
Windows Clipboard when Word starts.

Start Word first, then copy and paste.

Or follow the procedures here to remove the Works Suite add-in

WD The Windows Clipboard Content is Modified When Word Starts
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555173

This applies to Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002 and Word 2003.

Even in Notepad only 'copy' works but 'paste' doesn't (the 'paste' command is
executed after Notepad is started, not before).

Word came as part of the Office 2003 suite, not as part of the Works suite.

Even as I start Windows XP in safe mode, 'paste' doesn't work.

Hardly anything works in Safe mode. That's what Safe mode is for. A
"bare-bone" windows version to allow only the most basic functions so as to
eliminate extraneous functions that may be screwing things up. I.E. Screen
saver doesn't work in Safe Mode.

I spent 20 minutes using google to search Ramesh's site for that file. I knew it was there somewhere. Then I got fustrated and just attached it.

I just did a Google search for GetOpenClipboardWindow.exe. ;-)

Hi Olivier:

I have been having the same problem I think
with Notepad and Windbg.
I think Notepad is not keeping an eye on the
End Of File[EOF]. It often pastes to the front
of the file, when you our at the other end of
the file. I find if it's hightlighted and you
press Control C does not mean it's in the
Clipboard. This is a bloody pain in the arse.
I now have the clipboard Viewer open when
I am copying and pasting. It doesn't always
happen. But every time I have used Notepad
and Windbg it will eventually fail. Copy and
paste is not 100% reliable. It should be but it
is not. It also means you have to copy it
twice.
I am usually copying eight byte assembler
addresses of call statements. It also changes
the position of the Carriage return and line
Feeds of your text.

Hi David:

Notepad is Not keeping track of the End of File[EOF]
it sometimes enters text at the front of the file.
When you are working at the other end. It also
screws up your Line Feeds and Carriage Returns.
I have the Clip Board Viewer open when I am using
Notepad and Windbg. Just because it's Highlighted
and you press Control C doesn't mean it's in the
Clip Board viewer. Copy and Paste is not 100%
reliable, It should be!
I am copying eight byte Assembler addresses to
a Notepad text[TXT] file. It will eventualy screw
up. It means you have to copy it twice.
