copy & paste does not work !!!

O

Oji

I am running MS Windows XP Pro and for the last 2 days my
copy & paste function doesn't work anymore !

I tried everything: right-click, ctrl+c, buttons, etc and
I tried it in different programs.

It just doesn't work anymore.

The function is still there; I can right-click a text
selection and copy, but it doesn't paste.

What causes this and how do I fix it?

You should ensure your anti-virus is updated also will be good idea to run
an Anti-spyware program such as Ad-Aware.

If you didn't make any change to the system configuration, you can restore
the system to a previous date when everything was going well, by example,
restore to three days ago. Go to Start --> Accesories --> System Tools -->
System Restore and give it a try, if the problem is not solved with that you
can go back with System Restore and keep looking for another solution.

my computer is on a network here at work. Isn't that
going to effect the entire network, if I use system
restore to go back to a previous time?

Scanning for viruses and trojans won't catch spyware. You need to run
Ad-aware.

I already checked the PC for Viruses and trojans and
couldn't find anything !

Your computer is a network terminal right? Don't worry, nothing bad could
happen, if this try doesn't solve the problem, you can undo it safely.

Yeah! Spyware could cause almost all kind of problems, if you want, try with
Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.de ) before doing a system restore.

True.

You need to run
Ad-aware.

But Adaware is only one of several programs that will stop
spyware, not even necessarily the best. My personal favorite is
Spyware Blaster, but I supplement it with Adaware, which usually
catches an extra cookie or two that Spyware Blaster misses.

See if RPC service got disabled by any chance (for example, as a result of a
domain logon script). You'll see all kinds of weird behavior in the
"Services" management applet, though.
