i have 3 computers connected to a local network along with an external
harddisk.

some of the files/maps on the external harddisk i want the user to sign in
with password/username with some files/maps beeing open for anyone

how do you solve this?

Hi Pierce,
Try this Right click the Map Drive and in Shares and Security set up a
Security Permissions to the Users which you would like them to have a Full
Controll or just Read,Write, Print,Change, and assign everyone a password and
you can force everyone to change thier password <say every Week or 14
Days>,but you should have the Admin Account set o your self, for any user lost
or the Password Period Expires.
Hope that helps, please write back and let me know what you got on.
Good luck
nass

When you say "external harddisk", do you mean that it is a USB connected
hard disk? If not how is it connected to the network and the PCs?

If it is an external USB hard disk, then it is likely formatted in FAT,
which does not allow per file/folder permissions. I believe that it is
possible to format it with NTFS, but that may involve starting from
scratch. I don't believe that the 'convert' command works for external
drives. I may be wrong on this.

Cheers,

Cliff
