I've looked everywhere, in my local security policies and
everything. I finally got my XP computer to show up on
my home network and when I tried to access it from my
win98 box I needed a password. I've went through my
entire repitiore of passwords and not one works. Not
even the generic "admin" password.

Where else can I look for this password???

Ray,

For XP Home, OR for XP Pro with Simple File Sharing enabled, make sure that the
Guest account is enabled, on the XP computer (Start - Run - "lusrmgr.msc").

For XP Pro with SFS disabled, you'll need to setup an additional, non-Guest
account, with a non-blank password. Use that account and password from the
Win98 computer.

The answer is in here:

And Ray, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - never post your address unmunged.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP computer to fully enable file
sharing. That's usually all that's needed.

If that doesn't solve the problem, please reply to this message in the
news group (not by E-mail) with more information to help other people
understand the problem:

1. What is the complete and exact text of the password prompt?

2. What version (Home or Professional) of XP do you have?

3. If you have XP Professional, is simple file sharing enabled or
disabled?

4. Have you changed any settings for XP's Guest account? If so, what
have you changed?
