My frien received her Moms old computer and it has
Windows 2000 on it. Problem is it is password protected
and we can't get logged on. How can we change the
password or bypass it and get the password off?

Have your 'frien' ask her Mom what the password is?

In that event that that is not possible, OP needs to say if this is a
BIOS password or a Windows issue.
