G'Day Nova,

I think that ... maybe ...
.... the password protection is associated with the User Name on XP
.... the association is indirect in that the file probably contains an Xp UIC
(User ID Code)

If I had this file on an Xp PC, I would ...
.... Boot the PC in Safe Mode
.... Log in as 'Administrator'
.... Find the file in Windows Explorer
.... Right-Click > Properties
.... On the 'Security' tab ...
... Take ownership of the File and all privileges ...

Do you know if there is a similar process in Vista ('cos I don't)!

thanks, but that isn't working in Vista. i tried taking all privledges in
safe and normal modes, but get the same message afterwards. one thing i've
noted is that the "special privledges box" is greyed out and inaccessible.
don't know if that means anything or not?
