password protection

I have some documents that I need to password protect and send to a user of
word 2003. I have done it and when I send it to the other person, she
doesn't need to enter in a password to open the document. How do I password
protect my document for 2007 and 2003

For 2003, Tools > Options > Security and enter password.

For 2007, Office Button > Prepare > Encrypt Document and enter
password.

I assume that you are trying to protect from Word 2007 - from the 'save/save
as' dialog, click tools > general. Insert the password. DO NOT click
'protect document'. Click OK. You will be prompted to confirm the password.
Save as word 97-2003 format, unless you are certain that the remote user has
the compatibility pack installed.
