password protected file doesn't offer the read only button

Our company has a password protected powerpoint presentation on a network
drive. This offers a read only button to all users except one. I've had
other users log on to that person's computer and they get the read only
button, so this has to be something in the user's profile, but I have no idea
what to look for.

What does that user see when they try to open the file?

If you log on as that user and just start PowerPoint, what version is it?
Versions prior to 2002 can't open password protected PPT files.

Sorry for the lateness of this reply, somehow my "notify me of replies" got
turned off and I didn't think that anyone had responded.

All PC's in our plant are running powerpoint 2002 sp3. I know there isn't
an issue with the powerpoint itself, because if someone else logs on this
function works for them. I just don't want to distroy this user's profile if
there is a way to change one setting. I've also tried elevating this user's
permissions on the PC (sometimes MS programs work in funny ways if you are
just a user). This one user is the only one having issues, and because we
use roaming profiles this user can't open this document on any PC in the
plant.

I did not see your original posting, but, if i recall correctly, if the file
is set to read-only in the file system, there would, and should, not be a
read-only button, as the filke is read-only unless one changes the file's
attributes.

I have a colleague who has this happen occasionally using PPT 2003 SP-1 on
WinXP SP-2. She'll double-click to open a password-protected file, but she
has no option to open it Read-Only. And she should.

I believe that rebooting usually takes care of it for her. We're thinking it
may have to do with the fact that she has PPT 2003 and 2000 both installed
on her system. I don't know how exactly that would relate to your system of
roaming profiles, but I thought I'd toss it into the mix anyway.
