Partitioning Hard Drive

I have a computer that has Windows 2000 Professional
installed on it and the hard drive was originally
partitioned with the whole drive (28 G) as one
partition. I would like to put Windows XP on it. It is
a basic disk and not a dynamic disk. I was trying to
find somewhere to re-size the basic disk and then add
another partition so that I can put Windows XP on that
partition. Can I re-size a basic disk or do I have to
upgrade to a dynamic disk? The Windows 2000 Professional
disk managment snap-in that used didn't have any upgrade
to dynamic disk function. I don't have the Windows 2000
Professional disk. Any suggestions on what I can do? If
I delete a partition will that erase everything in that
partition??

You can use Partition Magic to shrink C:\ prior to installing Windows XP
