Partition Images

I know I can use partition images to restore the original partition, but can
I use it on a new and different partition?

As far as I am aware.. programs that clone images of drives assume that the
user will want to re-instate the image as it was originally..

So if I use it on a new and different partition it will work the same way as
the original?

If you clone the image to a new drive, it will work as the original did?

What, exactly, are you trying to achieve?.. Dual boot maybe?

Not exactly, I just want to make sure that the image of the original I create
can be used on a replacement HDD, in a devastating event when my current HDD
doesn't work.

Bear in mind that the clone you make today may not be representative of your
setup in a month from now.. as with all backups, they should be updated from
time to time..

As for the point where you will need it, you just have to hope that all is
OK.. if you have a new drive, try it out, but disconnect your primary drive
first.. what you don't want at this point is a scuppered working drive and a
backup that doesn't work..
