PapaJohn/WinDVD/avi. Audio Problems/ How to upgrade or uninstall WinDVD

PapaJohn,

On another thread you suggest upgrading WinDVD as a means of solving the
problem of no audio in MM2's Storyboard.

I have version 4.0.11.10 of WinDVD, which may be a bit old. However, Windows
Update does not detect this and never prompts for an update - though I have
never used WinDVD, so maybe that is why?

Also, if I go Start/All Programs/InterVideo WinDVD 4 there is no option to
Uninstall/Upgrade. When I open the program, it says WinDVD 4 for Fujitsu
Siemens, so this version may have come bundled with this laptop which is a
Fujitsu Siemens.

Any suggestions?

Ideally, I would like to upgrade to the most recent version of WinDVD. If
that still doesn't work - i.e. MM2's Storyboard audio is still unusable - I
would like to uninstall it.

Many thanks.

Hi DM,

Windows Update doesn't do updates to third party software, just to Microsoft
software and it won't prompt for an update of all of that, just the more
critical items.... it doesn't prompt users of MM1 to see if they want to
upgrade to MM2.

WinDVD Version 4.0 DXVA B11.096 came pre-installed on my new Toshiba laptop.

The ReadMe.txt file that came with it says "....15) This product is being
delivered to end-users as an OEM product, most often bundled with a hardware
component, or as part of the system itself. End-users requiring support
should directly contact the OEM provider of the software."

I looked around the WinDVD site and don't see an update or patch being
offered. .... unless I purchase version 5. As I only watch one DVD every few
months on it, I prefer just toggling the needed iviauido.ax codec on and
off, and using version 4. I don't want to uninstall it because it's the DVD
playing engine for my laptop. As the laptop has a combo CD/DVD drive and
WinDVD is the playing engine software, I prefer just leaving things alone.

PapaJohn,

Thanks for that. I didn't realize that one needed a DVD engine. I thought
that WMP or Real Player just played DVDs on their own!

Looks like I'm stuck with WinDVD4 then and won't be able to solve my
..avi/Storyboard audio problem yet.

Darn! ;-(

Thanks.
