A MUST READ SOLUTION TO AUDIO SCREECH AND MPEG VIDEOS

okay, so after pulling what little hair i have left out between yesterday and today, i decided to check out this forum for the first time. i, like many digital camera owners was having a problem with the audio of my video clips once i posted the clip to the 'storyboard'. i was getting this high pitched screech only when it was on the storyboard

so i found others who had the same problems with all different kinds of cameras, mine is a canon a-70 which has the file extension .avi but is still a compressed file (mpeg); therefore, won't play in pinnacle or premiere in the final production stages (as best i understand anyway). so i was determined to make this work.

i first tried to adjust the codecs listed from the papajohn.org website, but that didn't work. i then tried downloading an mpeg encoder (listed on the papajohn.org webpage) from the mainconcept.com page. its a free demo version. and it did get rid of the screech. you have to convert the file to an mpeg2, but there were a few problems with it. one, the audio was a bit distorted and not that great of quality. two, you have the watermark of mainconcept on every video you convert with the demo version. and three, to get rid of the watermark you must purchase the real software for $150! ouch

so i went back to the page and read more and found a person who had uninstalled his winDVD player from Intervideo. So i gave it a try. and YES, it worked. I've got 23 plus minutes of video with effects, sound, narration, the whole thing and the sound is great. the only problem is i have to reinstall the dvd player if i want to watch dvds. but the problem is solved...temporarily. i'm hoping someone with more time can figure out why the winDVD is causing the problem. it must be with shared files? anyone with an idea, please post....papajohn? please help

enjoy

The Problem Solving > Acceleration and Codecs page of www.papajohn.org says
that the issue with the iviaudio.ax file was resolved by newer releases of
WinDVD. Can you comment about that?

I'm wondering if the need to uninstall WinDVD is for those who haven't
upgraded it. What version are you running?

Thanks,

PapaJohn

So maybe upgrading will let you use both MM2 and WindDVD without conflict.

YOU ARE A LEGEND! If this works, I am more than happy to reload the DVD player if I want to watch DVDs just to get rid of that annoying sound!
