I receive an error message "no paging file or file is too small" When I go to
put one in I use the system managed size for the paging file. It than tells
me to restart to implement these changes. When I restart I get the same
message.
any suggestions?
thanks.

Open Windows Explorer.
Check that pagefile.sys is not set to read only.

Not stpuid, just unknowing:
If you open MY Computer, you're essentially in the first of many windows
that entail Windows Exploer. To actually open Explorer, Click Start,
Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.

If you are wanting to view the 'pagefile.sys', you'll need to mkae folder
options changes. Open your "C:\" drive (since this is where your pagefile
is), then click at the top of the window on tools, folder options, view tab.
Then select the radio button under Hidden Files and folder "Show hidden
files and folders", then scroll down to "Hide protected operating system
files (Recommended)", and uncheck that, apply and OK out. You then will see
the pagefile.sys.

Also, when you receive that message XP creates a temporary Pagefile
called Temppf.Sys in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, not the usual
Pagefile.Sys in the Root of the System drive. So this allows you to
delete any Pagefile.Sys that exists but won't be used during this XP
session. These Pagefile.Sys may be orphaned or corrupted and be the
cause for the boot up message.

Thanks for your help. I unchecked the "hide protected etc." Can you tell me
exactly where to find the "pagefile.sys"? Is it in a particular folder?
thanks again.

Hi
I am having the same problem.
I have followed the instructions and unchecked the hidden files. But I can
not find a pagefile.sys or temppf.sys on my C drive.

Can i copy one from somewhere to kick start it back into action?

Thanks
