Pages self scroll all ways. Shift key makes the page go back

My Dimension 3000 has been giving me problems for some time. First any page
I open and use, on-line or off-line, scrolls by itself vertically or
horizontally. I can’t stop or control it by using the mouse. I can stop the
scroll only by clicking on the task bar. Even while using options in a page,
like a pull down menu, scrolls by itself wildly. While using a map (for
directions), the map zooms in and zooms out by itself like crazy.

More! When I press the shift key, the page goes back to the previous page.

I was advised this could be either a virus or the problem with the monitor.

I tried Dell PC restore. On restarting, the system went back to “….PBR
descriptor 1 …done†“ Starting Windows 95â€, whereas the OS I was using was
XP Home. I tried and tried and at the end reinstalled the entire XP Home OS,
from the OS recovery Disc I had (luckily) created earlier. Downloaded all
the updates and antivirus. All is as before now, THE ORGINAL PROBLEM still
persists.

The DISPLAY STILL SCROLLS BY ITSELF, UOP AND SOEN, LEFT AND RIGHT, ZOOM-IN
AND ZOOM-OUT, LIKE CRAZY. And I’m going crazy!!!

HELP!!! Any one, please.

Your mouse could be damaged. Unplug it and enable "MouseKeys" to test that.

A keyboard key is sticking. Which one, I don't know, but it's the one
that would cause those movements, and have the reverse effect when the
Shift key is depressed. I suspect a Tab key.
