Page numbers

P

Peter

Something funny is going on.

I created Header and Footer (different on first page) and separately
Inserted page numbers at the bottom.

Page 1 came up with the page number at the top, while the others were at the
bottom. I tried to change everything to the top hoiping that I could then
change everything back to the bottom and now I have page numbres in every
page at the top and at the bottom!

How do I get out of this one?

Thanks

It sounds as if you may have at some point used Insert | Page Numbers. This
is not recommended for any but the simplest documents. Before you can do
anything else, you need to get rid of those. For instructions on safe and
complete removal, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm. Once you've
got rid of those, go back and use the Insert Page Number button on the
Header and Footer toolbar to insert the page number in the First Page Footer
and the Header. For more on this, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm
