page number question

if you're writing a paper and you have a title page or something at the
beginning, and you want to start the second page numbered as page 1 at the
bottom, how do you get it to skip the first page? it only let's me not have
anything on the title page and start at 2. very annoying!

For this specific situation, omit the number on the first page and start
numbering at 0 (using the Format Page Number dialog).
