My page file is normally resident on my F drive, but when I have a crash, on
restarting I sometimes find it has moved to my C drive. What causes this and
is there any way I can stop it happening?

Windows XP uses the page file on the boot drive (C: in most instances)
for some special functions. One of these is for the capture of
"System Failure Memory Dumps" which are generated automatically during
a crash.

If you need these dumps for diagnosing the causes of the crashes then
you also need to have a page file on drive C: that is large enough to
contain them.

Windows XP does support the use of multiple page files, provided there
is only one page file per physical drive. So if your C: and F: are
on different physical drives then you can configure a page file on
each. However if they are just different partitions on the same
physical drive then you will be limited to just a single page file.

You can use Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and Recovery
Settings to turn off the System Failure Memory Dumps and that in turn
should allow you to keep the page file on the F: partition.

Good luck

Thanks -- that's really useful information!
