page cannot be displayed using SSL over HTTP

I am using XP SP2 with IE 6 SP2. I am not able to browse web sites that use
SSL over HTTP. Browsing with HTTP works with no problems.

I have checked for mal-ware and viruses and have not found anything.

Any advice would be appreciated.
