IE6 opens only https-SSL pages

B

Bluto

After a firewall (Zone Lab Pro) resetting, IE 6 can't open any "normal" page anymore.
It only can open https pages, even with the firewall shut off and all IE6 security/privacy options shut off too.
Double virus/spyware scanning gave no result.
The same after an SFC scan and an IE6 installation checking.
No way to reach plain web pages. Just SSL links.
Really strange behavior.
I have Win Pro SP2 updated to the last.

Could I have any suggestions ?

Thanks
Bluto

Sorry, Errata Corrige:

After a firewall (Zone Lab Pro) resetting, IE 6 can't open any "normal" page anymore.
It only can open https pages, even with the firewall shut off and all IE6 security/privacy options shut off too.
But Outlook Express does work perfectly: sends, receives and downloads all newsgroups.
So does the downloader, the antivirus daily updater and any other net-related item.
Double virus/spyware scanning gave no better result for IE.
The same after an SFC scan and an IE6 installation checking.
Any other trick I found here was applied.

No way to reach plain web pages. Just SSL links.

Really strange behavior.
I have Win XP Pro SP2 fully updated.

Could I have any suggestions ?

Thanks

Make sure your firewall is not blocking port 443.

Go to Start | Run and enter these commands (press <Enter after each one).

wait, Frank, you have it backwards.

Bluto says that he CAN open secure web sites, but only secure web sites.
It's all the others that won't open.

I am having the same problem, yet I did nothing with any firewall. As a
matter of fact, this PC has no firewall software running & also it is Win2K.

Wow! Thanks, Frank, anyway.
Now I have big tools if my ssl links won't open too.
;o)
In the meanwhile, the strange behavior had a strange self-solution:
all slowly went to normal condition, page by page, link by link, without any particular reason, by itself.
Or maybe alien forces went back beyond Orion's frontiers.
Now everything is going fine.
But the the mystery goes on.

Thank you all.

Hello,
during my partial IE6 blackout every "advanced" setting was unchecked and checked again and then verified "normal". But nothing changed until when all things sequentially started to work fine again.
By themselves.
Eventually, no clues about WHAT started to work badly and then changed again to health...
Maybe did Nass' theory about "give it a kick in the ass" work well ?
Ok, let's go on kicking Windows in its ass, it seems to be always a good procedural path.
Good chances to you all.

Well, my IE6 is still in a funk. No joy.

Haven't tried Nass' "kick ass" procedure yet.

Thx for the info.
