"Page Cannot Be Displayed" EXCEPT...

Will

I'm getting a Page Cannot Be Displayed error message in ALL
websites opened (or attempted to be opened) using Internet
Explorer 6 on Windows2000 Professional. The strange thing
is that the internet is still there. I can access certain
pages on my roommates computers AND I can access IRC and
AIM, as well as FTP (through FlashFXP), E-Mail (via
Outlook) and even the very same internet sites if I use
another browser, like Opera! I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the service pack for IE6, that didn't help. I
have reset the defaults for all the settings, and that
hasn't helped either. Please help!

I am having the same problem on Windows XP Home runing IE
6 SP1. Machine can ping, tracert, ftp, use outlook, get on
the web via Mozilla but Internet Explorer does not work.

I have run the system file checker, reinstalled IE,
deleted history, cookies, cache, downloaded programs.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
