Page # and footer don't paste in

Hi,
We have recently changed our corporate template to a new format and users
are copying/pasting in slides from the old into the new. Despite the fact
that both old and new layouts had a footer and a page # set in the Master
slide, they don't always appear when the old slides are pasted into the new
template.

Currently, users have to click on the Insert tab, and choose Header and
Footer, then tick the Slide Number and Footer boxes, and then click "Apply to
All." Is there an automated way to to do this? I think a similar question was
asked on 9/2/2009 by user named herefroggy and the subject line was "Date -
Page # not showing up" and the automation aspect of it was never answered.

Your help is always appreciated.

We are currently using PPT 2007 but the original template (and slide decks)
were created in v. 2003.

And yes, they're (manually) pasting slides into a presentation *based* on
the new template. So they are going into OldDeck, selecting all slides, Copy,
and Pasting the slides into NewDeck. Both decks have Master slides, but there
is no true "template" file involved.
