Overseas issue?

I am not sure if any of you will have an idea but..I am sending emails to
Iraq and my friend has been unable to open them. He has not had this problem
before. He is using gmail. I have been able to open his but only 1/2 the
message is coming through and I can't open his photos. We have been trying
to work it out to no avail. Is it possible that Windows Mail may have
anything to do with this?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers Kheali,
I had a similar problem in emailing to the Middle East. You may want to
ditch WM!

Ha Ha...that is an interesting suggestion. I suppose it would cure all of my
WM issues all at once!!! The question now is what did you find?

You don't want advice from me! I am here to post my own thread. I didn't
really get any Windows Mail answers when I posted that question not too long
ago. I ended up using a totally unrelated server account. I would like to
use my Windows set up so if anyone has any rec. that would be fabulous.

hmmm...that is almost crazy enough to work! Actually we were just able to IM
so that may be enough for now. However, if anyone does have any suggestions,
I am listening. Thank you Bash for the humor!

What happens when you send photos to yourself?

If you at least get an attachment for his messages, indicated by a
paperclip appearing near the upper right corner or the message,
click on it and see if you can save the attachment file even if
Windows Mail cannot open it. If the attachment filename is
winmail.dat, it is probably in the RTF format, which Outlook
can read but Windows Mail cannot. If it's anything else, you
probably need extra software to read it, so tell us the part of the
filename starting with the last period and we'll try to recognize
what software.

If this fails, you may as well start trying other email programs.

Windows Live Mail is one of the easier programs to switch to, so you
may as well try it first.

Thunderbird seems good at supporting foreign languages, so you might
also want to try it.

Hi Robert,
You brilliantly helped me with a photo issue yesterday. People were unable
to open my photos. That has been resolved. Yes, there is a paperclip and
the end of the file is .jpg. I can send an attachment to myself with .jpg
and open it without a problem.

Addendum to my original question, any thoughts as to why the email from my
friend in Iraq, ends up in my junk file before I can even try to open it?

You may need to send them this and tell them to use it to make sure they
they have selected a program for opening .jpg files, if they are also
running
Vista:

<http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html>

I'm not sure how to make Windows Mail open them inside a message,
but at least they should be able to open them outside Windows Mail..

I use Windows Photo Gallery for .jpg files, so that's a good program to
select.

If they are also using Windows Mail under Vista, tell them to start
Windows Mail, then click on Tools, then Options, then Read. If
there is a checkmark in the box before Read all messages in plain
text, click on this box, then Apply. Click on OK.

He may be sending through an email provider that is often used by spammers,
and therefore got on a list of sites that send junk mail.

If so, it often helps to click on Tools, then Junk E-mail Options, then Safe
Senders.
Click on Add and add his email address to the list. Also, if there's no
checkmark
in the box before Also trust e-mail from my Windows Contacts, click on this
box.
Click on Apply, then OK.

Also, if any such messages are still in the Junk E-mail folder, Windows Mail
is
likely to refuse to open attachments to messages in that folder. Click on
Junk
E-mail, then select the message, then click on Not Junk. Wait until the
message
moves to the Inbox, then read it there.

Thank you so much Robert for all of the information. I am having him try the
link you suggested. Worst case scenario, I will start using a completely
separate server with him.
