Override HP Out of Ink msg

I have an HP cp1700 printer with 4 individual ink cartridges. I want to
print using black ink only (print in black and white, or grayscale options)
but the cyan ink cartridge is empty.

The printer won't allow black ink printing, because there's no cyan ink.
Anyway to fool the printer?

There is a 4 pin connector on the ink cartridge (HP #11) Anyone know the
pinout for this?

thx in advance,

I do not know of a way to do this, but even if you could find one I would
caution against it. The CP 1700 has separate ink and printheads. While
printing, even if black only is selected there will be some amount of firing of
the color cartridge to keep the nozzles clear. (To not do this would allow the
nozzles to dry out as they were being waved around while printing black.) If
the color printheads are fired without ink it can cause the printhead to be
damaged.

Thanks for the technical explanation... what at first seemed like a really
poor user interface design, suddenly makes sense.

My confidence in HP just went back to it's normal (high) position ;-)
