HP Business Inkjet 2200 ink levels

I have a new problem with a HP Business Inkjet 2200. Yesterday. I replaced
the black (HP 10) and the cyan (HP 11) ink cartridges. The LCD screen then
told me that the magenta ink cartridge (HP 11) was empty. I did not have a
magenta cartridge yesterday. I got the magenta cartridge on my way to work
today and replaced it. Now the printer is indicating that both the Black
and Cyan ink cartridges are empty. I know that the are not. How can I
"force" the levels indicators back?

I do not know of any way to do this, that is not to say there isn't a way. But
some of these series printers (not sure if the 2200 was included) used to
suffer from early failure of the Ink Supply Station (ISS), this is the unit
that the ink cartridges fit into. What happens is a that a plastic stud that
holds one end of a spring breaks (there is one set of these for each ink
cartridge) and when that happens the affected cartridge is reported as empty
when it is not. You can easily check if this has happened; if you remove the
ink cartridges there is a protruding knob in the ISS that mates with a soft
bulb on the underside of the cartridge itself. The knob in the ISS should be
spring loaded, if you push it down it should return to the up position, if it
stays down then the plastic stud has broken. HP updated the ISS using a
stronger form of construction. The ISS can be replaced but is a bit pricey, but
much cheaper than a replacement printer of this quality.
I hope this is not your problem but it is easy to check just in case.
