overloaded favorites menu

Since downloading the upgrade to IE6 everything in my My
Computer folder is in my favorites list and the thing in
unusable. How I get rid of the non URL stuff which is all
I want there?

You seem to have the wrong value for Favorites in the Registry.
You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in one or both
of these two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders
