Overclocking gone

Hello all. I have a system which allowed me to overclock via the POST setup.
I had it set to 10%, but several months ago my computer would not boot until
I set oversclocking down to 5%. A couple days ago same symptoms, so I turned
overclocking off completely. System works fine now (P4, 3.2GHz), but I'm
wondering if maybe my CPU is going? There seem to be no other symptoms.
Anything I should worry about or check?
Thanks.

Just because a motherboard bios allows you to overclock does not mean that
the CPU you have installed is capable of it for sustained time periods.

I would plan on replacing your CPU in the near future.

Yeah - that was worth it, eh?
The CPU's are rated because that is where they tested stable at.
You have tested it for them - but you may have caused damage to the CPU in
the process.
Could your CPU be going? Sure.
So could your motherboard, RAM, power supply, hard disk drive, etc. *grin*

You should worry about having to replace your CPU, which is likely.
Overclocking is foolhardy.

Overclocking relies on a very stable power source. It is likely that some
capacitors on the motherboard or in the power supply have changed slightly
in value. Have you added any new hardware?

It would be best if you posted this question to a hardware group. This is
not an XP OS issue.

1. Overclocking is a lonely land; no one can help you out in those areas.
2. Overclocking is "over"clocking for a reason; which you are apparently
not aware of.
3. Didn't see any benefit of a 10% overclock, did you? Of course not.
4. See some disadvantages NOW though, don't you?
5. Components degrade with temperature and age. No max clock achieved
today can be known to be achievable tomorrow; as you're now learning.
6. It's actually not very likely your cpu is going to bomb; but it may have
aged many magnitudes more than the time that's passed while it was
overclocked. It could be a long time before, if ever, you see any problems.
7. Maybe if you under-clocked it you'd get that time back? ;-)~
