I just received a new Compaq Presario 8000 today and when
I turned it on, before it finishes the initial
installation of XP I get a screen shot that says:

OVER SIZE

RECOMMAND MODE

1280 x 1024

and then the screen goes blank.

Usually, if I get this error and the installation has
completed I just go into safe mode and fix it. This time
I have NO clue what to do. I spend over and hour waiting
for tech support and when I got someone his computer
wasn't working and he had to put me on hold and then it
got disconnected.

Can anyone give me any ideas what I can do to get rid of
this error and have the correct screen resolution?

TIA!

Chris

If you can get into safe mode, uninstall the display adapter and reboot the
machine to see if its just a problem detecting the video card properly.

I cannot get into safe mode; there error I get there is
installation has not finished and then it reboots, I get
the WINDOWS XP bootup screen and then I get the same
OVERSIZE error.

Okay, I got it fixed, instead of running in SAFE MODE, I
went into VGA MODE and it worked. I'm up and running.
Thanks for all the replies!
