Outotlook 2003 pst recover?

Hi,

A collegue has a broken pst file from outlook 2003. He exported it saved it
on a dvd then wiped his hdd installed a fresh copy of windows and office
2003 SBE. Now he wants to import the pst file and outlook says its not a
valid format or not a pst file. I tried pstscan.exe but no luck. Is there
anything else i can try. I i open the file with a hex editor and look for a
name i actually find the name as hex. Is there a way to convert it somehow.
