I realize this is off topic but I don't have access to the Outlook
group. Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer the address book into
a simple text format for backup?

Um, if you have access to this group, then I'm pretty sure you have
access to an Outlook group too.

I wish I did, my news carrier sux. Does someone have an answer?

The only way I know of is to export the address book to a .csv file
on a regular basis e.g.. just before your backup.

Go to http://www.individual.net/
It's free, you have to register, and you're not tied to any particular ISP
to access it. They don't carry most of the binary groups, but otherwise it's
great.

Not to mention the Microsoft NNTP server that hosts these groups,
which is also free. You just have to point your newsreader to it.

have they fixed the problems yet?

I've never noticed any problems with it, but I use UseNetServer, not
the MS newsserver, so my perception may be somewhat skewed.
