Outlook using 100% CPU when opening emails

Hi,

I'm having a problem on half a dozen computers on my companies network
where
outlook 2003 gets slower and slower opening emails, while it's trying
to open the
emails the CPU goes to 100% and after opening 6+ emails outlook is
unusable
as it takes longer and longer to open a email.

I have found that the issue and it seems to be the outcmd.dat, I have
renamed the outcmd.dat file on these computers and it fixes the problem
until
you close outlook and reopen it and the problem reappears.

Does any one have any fixes/thoughts on this issue?

Many Thanks

outcmd.dat stores customizations of the outlook toolbar. You can rename or
delete this to return to a default toolbar config.

I would ensure you have the latest patches for Outlook/Office.
And also check for malware or virus issues.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I have deleted the outcmd.dat file on the affected computers but when I
load outlook close it outlook recreates the outcmd.dat (on a computer
that does not have this issue outlook does not recreate the outcmd.dat)
and if I load outlook again I get the problem back.

I have installed all patches/service packs for office 2003 and the
problem still exists. (the problem also exists without any
patches/service packs)

I have a test computer which I have done a fresh install of the
operating system/office and this problem appears on this computer
straight away, so I am very sure that the computer does not have any
malware/viruses on it.

This problem also only seems to affect user accounts that do not have
power user or admin privileges, so might be a permissions issue but I
can't see why as we have more users that do not have this problem
than what do.

Do you have any other suggestions that might help?

Many thank

I have found the cause of the problem it was to do with the broadcom
bluetooth driver which has an addin for office. i updated the driver from v3
to v5 (the latest version) and it fixed the problem. On another computer i
had to uninstall the addin by running "regsvr32 /u
c:\windows\system32\btsendto_office.dll" as there was not an updated driver
for it.

You can tell the version of the driver by looking for "btsendto_office.dll"
in the system32 folder and looking at the properties.

I hope this information helps other users who have broadcom bluetooth on
there computers in the future.
