Outlook starts ok but getting slower by opening mail

P

Peter Reynders

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with our Outlook
when some persons opening Outlook it starts normal and is working as it
should be

but with every mail we klick outlook is getting slower
After opening 10 mails Outlook hangs
cpu stays at 100% for Outlook

The solution that solves this problem temporary is resetting the user
profile on our server
But then again it's just a matter of time and all things start over again

Resseting the user profiles again and again is not a sutible solution
because it involves a lot of work for setting the user settings back

First i thougth it was a problem with Outlook 2002 but we have the same
problems with Outlook 2003

We use a windows 2003 domain + Exchange 2003 server and roaming profiles

if anyone has some info to solve this problem i am glad to hear from it

Regards,

Peter

Does the issue happen starting Outlook in safe mode?

How to:
Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe > OK button

The reason I ask is I am wondering what 3rd party things might be installed
that index, sync, protect, .etc Outlook data.

In regards to antivirus, if you have a good Exchange aware antivirus product
installed on the Exchange server protecting e-mail, having antivirus on the
client desktop that does the same thing is a waste. If this sounds like
your office, I would exclude PST/OST/OAB files from real-time antivirus
scanning.

In Safe mode outlook is working like it should be
I wil take a look at our antivirus software to see if it is this wat
causes the problem

Status update
running is safe mode = ok
when i disable all add-ins
mine are in dutch
Outlook scan
Gemachtigingentoegang (permission trhing)
Herstellen van verwijderde items (recover deleted items)
Opdrachten voor extensies van Exchange (extensions commands for
Exchange)
Eigenschappenvenster voor Exchange extensies (property windows for
exchange extensions)

All are disabled now but when i start in normal mode the problem stays
there are no PST files nor OST file that the outlook is working with

What else disables safe mode more in outlook?
Add-ins is one thing but with the tests they arent the problem!

Regards,
Peter

Is it possible for you to uninstall/reinstall Mcafee w/out the e-mail
scanning portion? (I think that is what the "Outlook Scan" addin is.)

To answer you question about safe mode...
* Turns off addins and extensions
* Turns off custom views
* Turns off custom toolbars

/Neo

PS - I don't know what the "permission thing" is either. But the ther other
3 are Microsoft Outlook addins that bring in some features when connected to
Exchange.

PSS - http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/commandlines.htm covers the "/safe"
command line switch where you can try selected sub parts not to load that
might help you isolate the issue.

Are you sure your PST file wasn't oversized? If not ,you can try
Advanced Outlook Repair to solve the problem, by either converting it
into Outlook 2003 format ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/convert-2gb-pst.htm
), or splitting it into smaller pieces ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/split-2gb-pst.htm
)

http://www.datanumen.com/aor/ contains the detailed information about
Advanced Outlook Repair.

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
