Outlook setup

Currently, I recieve my email by clicking Hotmail after
connecting to internet explorer. I understand that it is
possible to setup Outlook so that I don't have to log on
to thte internet and read my email by clicking Outlook
from the destop. Can anyone show me the method of doing
this? My operating system is XP and I am on Cable modem.
