Outlook Connector - recieve delay

P

Peter

I'm using Outlook 2007 and Outlook Connector 12.1 with a Live Hotmail
account. Vista Home Premium.
I also have Windows Live Messenger loaded and signed in online all the time.
Live Messenger pops up a little message above the task tray as soon as a new
message arrives in my Inbox.

Now my problem/query is this:
Live Messenger is online and minimised to the task tray.
Outlook is loaded and minimised to the task tray as well.
I recieve a notification from Live Messenger that I have new email message
in my Inbox.
I bring Outlook up from the task tray and click the 'Send/Recieve' button. -
Nothing!
I try the Send/Recieve button several times. - Nothing.
If I open the Hotmail Inbox in Internet Explorer the new mail message is
there and I can read it.
Eventually after a 10 - 15 minute wait the new message will eventually load
into outlook.
The message also seems load if I close Outlook and then re-open it.
I have checked in the options dialog box (under mail setup) and my Live
account is set to synchronise and is set to be synchronised when I click the
Send/Recieve button.
This is a real pain in the neck! Any Ideas?

Peter,

I'm experiencing the same problem you are since I "installed" Outlook
Connector 12.1. I've had Outlook Connector installed for a couple of years
to synchronize emails, Calendar, etc. with my MSN email account. BTW, I'm
running under Win Vista Ultimate.

After installing OLC 12.1 I checked the version and it shows 12.0.6414.1000.
I'm not sure that means 12.1, or not.

To get around the delay in receiving messages I set Outlook to automatically
synchronize with MSN/Hotmail every minute (I believe the default is 30
minutes). That helps a bit, but "live" Send/Receive would be nicer.

Another new issue I'm experiening since installing OLC 12.1 is that I get
many Calendar Reminders. They keep coming back a few minutes after I dismiss
them.

Maybe someone else knows more about a real solution to our problem.

Yes I have experienced the same calendar behaviour. I'm runnint the same
version if Outlook Connector that you are, 12.0.6414.1000 and yes, I believe
that's called version 12.1
I guess that the only solution to the problem will come via a MS update. Do
you not find that setting Outlook to check for mail every 1 minute slows
your system down?
I have mine set to check mail every 15 minutes but Messenger lets me know as
soon as there is mail in my Inbox. Then I click the Send/Recieve button and
usually have to keep checking via the Send/Recieve button for up to 10
minutes, after Messenger has reported new mail, before Outlook actually gets
it into the Inbox.

No, there is no discernible performance impact of having Outlook check once a
minute. I don't bother with Send/Receive anymore. I've also stopped
dismissing reminders because they pop back up each time Outlook checks the
online Calendar.

The good thing is that when you send emails, they are sent right away. I
test that by sending myself emails. Messenger sees them right away and I can
pick them up via Outlook Connector (old version) on another machine.

It appears that MS has a few bugs to fix.

I have the exact same problem as Peter. I have had Outlook Connector for a
couple of years and suddenly last I stopped getting email from MSN. Just
like Peter, I have Vista Home Premium. Also, I have Outlook 2003 SP3, with
Outlook Connector version (12.0.4518.1068). I do not get new emails unless I
restart Outlook (or go directly to my MSN account). I get the same pop-ups
that I have new mail (I also have Windows Live Messenger running) and Outlook
does not get it unless I restart Outlook.
I tried the online Chat with support to get help on this issue, which is
free for the 1st 15 minutes only. So, the tech remotely connected to my
machine and spent the 15 minutes sending an email to confirm what I had told
him. Then of course the tech said he was able to recreate my problem and
could fix it in just a couple of minutes but since we were past the free
time, he would have to charge me for the fix. Needless to say, I did not get
the fix, especially since the tech insisted I pay with Paypal.
I'm sorry I don't have a fix to tell you about, but this is to let you know
that you are not alone and I'm also very anxious to hear about a free fix to
this annoyance that just started happening out of the blue last week.
Apparently there is a fix and it should be free. Please let me know if you
find out what it is.
Thanks!

If you need to restart Outlook each time to get your email, you might try
uninistalling Outlook Connector and re-installing an older version of
Connector. I know that the problem doesn't occur on machines with the older
version installed. In the meantime we're waiting for Microsoft ot fix the
problem.

It looks like my problem was that I had not downloaded and installed Outlook
Connector 12.1 (12.0.6414.1000). Sorry if I joined the wrong discussion but
the symptoms sounded similar to my problem. If anyone else needs it, here's
the link to the Outlook Connector 12.1 download:

I ran a quick test and I'm getting my MSN email to show up in Outlook again.
I'll keep an eye out for any of these other issues you all are seeing.
Thanks.
