Outlook not shutting down properly

Kevin

This computer has Windows XP Professional and Office XP.
When I open Outlook then close it and try to reopen I get
this error:
Outlook is not responding. If you are using an Exchange
server email account, you can cancel pending server
requests by clicking the Outlook icon in the
notifications area, and then clicking Cancel Server
Request on the shortcut menu.
But everytime I click on the notification icon I get the
above message.

One of my clients are experiencing the same problem as
described below.

Win XP Pro and OL2003. OL2003 is configured to use a POP3
e-mail account as default and Exchange server. All
messages are delivered to the Exchanger server account.

Any help with this would be great.

Thx, CL

this sounds like two separate issues
first, i set my pop3 account as default and sent mail and was delivered
using the pop3 account. but it did deliver it to the exchange account
the reason for this is because under the accounts box, there is a list of
where the messages are delivered to. if the delivery location is set to your
exchange mailbox, it will go there. to prevent it, change it to something
else (a .pst)

second, with the notification error, this isn't when outlook is shutting
down. i have this same error here. if you have the 'hide when minimized'
option selected, outlook will hide but is still running. quite often when
you double click the icon in the system tray, a balloon will appear stating
outlook is not responding. this seems to be a problem with many people
since i have seen many threads in the past talk about that with no solution.
haven't tried sp1 yet so not sure if that will fix it
