Outlook Name Resolution

Environment - ActiveDirectory2000 with Exchange2000. Outlook 2003 clients.

All users in the org can type in certain partial name info for people in the
GAL and the full name will resolve (in Outlook). e.g. they can type in
ksmith and it will resolve to Smith, Karen (BBT).

*Some* users can also type in logon names from the ActiveDirectory and have
them resolve. e.g. they can type in kdsmith and it will also resolve to
Smith, Karen (BBT). Other users type in the same logon name, press Alt+K and
Outlook says "Outlook does not recognize kdsmith."

Why? What is the setting that causes some users to be able to type in Logon
Names and have them resolve, while other users cannot?

UGH ! Turns out it was simply Cached Mode. Apparently, in cached mode,
Outlook does not query the entire AD when doing name resolution and so it is
not able to resolve Logon Names to email addresses.
