Outlook 'has encountered a problem and has to close' message

Virtually every time I click from the 'Inbox' to 'Deleted Items' to 'Sent
Items' folders, etc., etc., I get the message that Outlook has encountered an
error and has to shut down. This happens dozens of times a day. Any way to
fix this?

More details are required before anyone can start:

Version of Outlook
Type of mail account (Exchange, POP3, etc.)
Size of PST, if you use one
Any Add Ins or COMs intalled?
Is antivirus configured to integrate with Outlook? That is, does it actively
scan incoming and outgoing emails?
Do you have any Desktop Searches installed such as Google?
Have you done any troubleshooting already (so no one tells you to try
something you've already done)?
Have you checked your Application Event Viewer for any Office or
Outlook-related errors?

OK thank you. Here are the details:
- version 12.0.6316.5000
- I have both an Exchange email box and a POP3; exchange is my primary
account and it requires a user & pword
- size of .pst file is 339,281KB
- yes there are Add-ins installed
- PC-cillin scans outgoing messages only
- Google toolbar is installed on Explorer but not the Desktop
- No troubleshooting done until now
- Application Event viewer contains multiple events for Outlook where the
"session ended with a crash"

Thank you

What's the point? Such a scan could NEVER find an infection (or your
on-access scanner would have complained already).

my mistake- I meant INCOMING only

Scanning incoming mail is also not recommended as it puts an extra layer
between Outlook and the server. Even without scanning mail, as long as your
on-access scanner is working, you're still just as protected.

I turned off email scanning altogether but my problem continues. Thanks

With many AV programs, you must uninstall the entire program and reinstall
without the mail scanning feature in order to truly disable it.

Thanks Brian- I uninstalled, then reinstalled without the mail scanning
feature, and it seems to be crashing more frequently than before
