outlook express

How can I remove my messages from my inbox...I have
viewed them and deleted them but they are still there.
This started happening on New Year's day. When I go to
my deleted folder I can permanently remove the messages
from there but they are still showing in my inbox. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chic
