Outlook Express Won't Remember Password

I recently installed my Windows XP after formating my C: drive.

I cannot get Outlook Express to remember my email password.

I can enter the password and check the "remember password" box on account
setup, but when I save the settings and return to the setup, the password is
cleared and the box in unchecked.

When I Send/Receive I get prompted to enter password, and the "remember
password" box is greyed out - I cannot check it.

Since having my two year old hard drive installed into a new computer - old
and new both with XP pro, I was having this problem - windows and Outlook
Express would not retain passwords, web addresses and forms, despite correct
settings in Autocomplete and advanced settings in Internet browser. My
Account, server tab in Outlook Express would not retain my password and I
had to keep logging on every time I wanted to access email.

With enormous frustration, I joined this Windows help and support only to
find that quite a few users have and are experiencing the same propblem.
After following this advice and the instructions scrupulously, I am delighted
to say that it worked! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
